Snow falls signal strong ski season.2 June 2007Up to 20 centimetres of snow has fallen this week in both the Snowy Mountains and the Victorian Alps, signalling a promising start to the ski season that officially opens next weekend. The weather bureau predicts more snow will fall in the lead-up to the opening. Nahria Shannon from the Jindabyne Visitor Centre at the Snowy Mountains expects this season will be much better than last year's disappointing falls. "Up in the resort areas, they've received about 15-20 centimetres of snow," she said. "There's quite a good cover across the resort, as well as snow-making under way. "If you have a look at any of the snow cams, you can see that it's very white up there at the moment and the forecast for June is consistent snowfalls likely throughout the month, so it looks like being a good start to the season." Mt Buller Ski Resort's Amber Gardner says tourists are already flocking to the Victorian Alps. "The snow falls that we've had through the week have really given people a bit of motivation to head up the mountain, so we've got a lot of people up here at the moment snow playing, building snowmen, trying out tobogganing and also snow-shoeing," she said.
