March 2006 was warm, sunny and dry.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were dominated by sunny skies, well above average temperatures, and little rain.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 12.2 degrees, well up on the 9.9 degrees recorded during March 2005.  The warmest night for the month occurred on March 13, when the temperature was a very muggy 22.3 degrees, while on March 21 it dropped to a cooler 7.8 degrees.

Days were warm and generally sunny, with an average maximum of 26.8 degrees, well up on last March’s average of 23.9 degrees.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 32.6 degrees, recorded on March 12, while on March 30 overcast skies and steady rain kept Gungahlin’s maximum temperature to just 17.9 degrees.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.6 km/h during March, with the strongest gust for the month a 51.5 km/h Northerly, recorded on March 15.

Rainfall totals during March were disappointing, with Gungahlin receiving just 33.3mm of rain, over 5 days.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also below average, with 34mm falling at Canberra AP, 13mm at Tuggeranong and just 11mm at Tidbinbilla.  Gungahlin’s rainfall so far in 2006 stands at 119.2mm, down on the 133.3mm that fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's April Outlook:  Current indications are for cooler and wetter weather in Gungahlin during April.  Daytime temperatures should average at around 18 degrees and nights at 6 degrees.  Rainfall prospects look good, with several passing cold fronts likely to push Gungahlin’s April rainfall well above the longer term average of 29mm.  I wouldn’t even be surprised if a snow flake or two fell during the cold fronts.
