Gungahlin cooler in 2011

Weather conditions in Gungahlin during 2011 were generally cooler and drier than the year before.* See all the 2011 data

Temperature

The average minimum temperature for the year was 6.7°C (7.5°C) and the average maximum temperature was 19.0°C (19.2°C).

January was the hottest month of 2011, with an average temperature of 21.4°C, while July, with an average temperature of 5.0°C, was the coldest.

The hottest day of 2011 was recorded on Australia Day (January 26) when the temperature reached a scorching 37.1°C (38.2°C), while on July 24 Gungahlins maximum temperature reached just 5.3°C (4.8°C).  In all, the maximum temperature reached 30°C or more on 22 days (27 days) during the year, while it failed to reach 10°C on 30 days (29 days) in 2011.

The coldest night of 2011 was a frosty -5.7°C (-4.9°C), recorded on July 29, while on February 4 the minimum was a sticky, hard to sleep through 19.7°C (19.7°C).

Rainfall

Gungahlin recorded 516.6mm (699.6mm) of rain during 2011, over 118 days (128 days).  The wettest day of the year was November 8 when 29.0mm (44.8mm) fell, while the longest dry spell recorded during the year was 18 days (15 days).

Frost, fog and snow.

Gungahlin recorded 98 (81) frosts during 2011 and there were 26 (24) fogs.  Despite some very cold and showery weather in early July not a single snowflake fell in Gungahlin during 2011.  There was one snow fall in Gungahlin in 2010.

Wind

The average wind speed for the year was 2.6km/h (2.9km/h).  The strongest wind gust to hit Gungahlin during 2011 was 57.4km/h (66.0km/h) from the W/NW, recorded on 5 July.
