Gungahlin dry and hot in 2000

Weather conditions in Gungahlin during 2000 were warmer and drier than the year before, according to resident Darren Giles, of Ngunnawal, who operates his own weather centre.

The hottest temperature of the year was 36°C, recorded on December 20 and 21.  On May 28 a cold snap kept Gungahlin's maximum to a bleak 3°C and 2cm of snow covered the gardens of Gungahlin.  Lighter snow falls also occurred on May 27, July 27 and August 16.  The lowest temperature was -5°C on June 14, 15 and July 28.

The temperature reached 30°C or more on 42 days during the year (31 days in 1999) and fell to 0°C or below on 56 nights (61 nights in 1999).

Rainfall totalled 672.2mm (well below 1999's 776mm).  November was the wettest month with 123.0mm.

There were 90 frosts (100 frosts in 1999).
