The Gungahlin Weather Centre opened in 1998 and records all major
weather elements including; temperature, rainfall, humidity,
barometric pressure, dew point, heat index, wind direction, wind
speed and wind chill.
The
Gungahlin Weather Centre is located in Ngunnawal in the Australian
Capital Territory (ACT). Ngunnawal is a northern suburb of
Canberra (Australia's National Capital - population 345,000). The name Gungahlin is taken from the
Aboriginal word 'Goongarline' meaning "little rocky hill".
Gungahlin is 298km from Sydney, 655km from Melbourne, 3,953km from
Perth and has a population of almost 40,000.

Gungahlin's Climate:
Although the climate of Gungahlin is only mild on the world scale, it is
fairly unique to Australia, with warm summers and cool to cold, frosty
winters - Gungahlin even receives light snow falls in most winters!
Rainfall is moderate, averaging just under
550mm per year. On average, spring is the wettest time of year and
the autumn the driest. Totals can vary widely from year to year.
Gungahlin is currently in the grip of one of the most severe droughts to
effect the region in recorded history.

Winter morning - Lake Ginninderra, Belconnen (1 June 2010).
Thanks to website regular Lorraine Attard for sending in this great
photo showing fog rising above Lake Ginninderra, Belconnen on the first morning
of winter 2010. Gungahlin recorded a mild start to winter with the
temperature range on 1 June 2.4°C to 14.3°C.
